Celebrating Black History All Year Long

In celebration of World Reading Day, we wanted to share with you some great read-aloud books that you can read with your kiddos and celebrate the power and joy of reading. What a better way to celebrate than to read about BLACK HISTORY!

In the month of February, we celebrate the astounding and powerful accomplishments of our Black Communities in the United States. We acknowledge that through their adversity, their countless obstacles, and sacrifices, they play a vital role in our American History. This is American History and should be represented as such. Music, Dance, Science, Technology, Art, Literature, Cooking, Culture, and every single facet of who we are as a nation can be attributed to a powerful Black person.

We hope you enjoy these book titles as much as we do.

Happy Reading!

Books to Encourage Conversations About Mental Health

This has been a tough year for our little ones, with so much change and disruption to their lives. May is Mental Health Awareness Month and a great reminder to start talking to our children about the state of their mental health (especially the little ones who are learning to manage feelings and situations out of their control). As a society, we are learning to normalize speaking about our own mental health and seek support from friends, family, and professionals. Below is a list of children and YA books about anxiety, depression, OCD, grief, ADHD, and managing emotions to help us begin these critical conversations with our little ones.

World Autism Acceptance Day

While there is still so much to learn about neurodiversity and ASD, we have made strides on being more inclusive in sharing stories that are representative of individuals on the spectrum in literature, film, tv, and more. There is still much we can work on, but together we can aim for inclusivity and acceptance.
